What is the Ex Ante add-in for Microsoft Word?

The Ex Ante add-in brings the Belgian legal search engine into Microsoft Word. You select a passage in your submissions, search case law and legislation without leaving Word, and add footnotes in the Belgian citation style with a link to the source. With footnote verification, you have all your references checked before you file.

Which versions of Word does the add-in work in?

Word for Windows, Word for Mac and Word on the web.

Do I need a separate subscription?

No. The add-in is included in every Ex Ante subscription. You sign in with your usual account.

Can I try the add-in during the free trial?

Yes. During the three free weeks, you use the add-in with your trial account, no credit card required.

Can my IT department install the add-in for everyone?

Yes. Through the Microsoft 365 admin center, your IT department rolls out the add-in to the whole firm in one go.

What is a correctly formatted footnote?

A citation that follows the Belgian citation rules (Juridische verwijzingen en afkortingen in Dutch, the Guide des citations in French). Ex Ante drafts it for you, with a link to the source.

Does the add-in also work for French-language submissions?

Yes. You search from a French-language selection and find sources in Dutch and French. French-language footnotes follow the Guide des citations, références et abréviations juridiques.

    What does footnote verification do?

It reads every footnote in your document and shows for each one whether Ex Ante found the source: linked, partially found, not found or no quote.
