Which civil law sources does Ex Ante search?
The case law of the Court of Cassation, the courts of appeal and the tribunals, the Civil Code and the old Civil Code, the preparatory works of the new books and legal literature.
Can I search only the judgments of the Court of Cassation?
Yes. You filter by institution and refine by date and language. With Exclude party arguments switched on, Ex Ante searches only the assessment by the Court, not the parties' pleas.
Can I find both the old and the new Civil Code?
Yes. Ex Ante contains the old Civil Code and the new books, such as Book 8 on evidence and Book 6 on non-contractual liability, with their preparatory works. So you also find the case law on the old articles you still need.
How do I find case law on an article of the Civil Code?
Type the article and the code, for example "article 1641 old Civil Code". Ex Ante shows the text of the article and the case law and legal literature that apply it, each opened at the passage where the article is discussed.
Can I search in plain language, without knowing the exact terms?
Yes. Ex Ante searches by meaning. A question like "after the sale the buyer finds damp in the cellar" also finds case law on latent defects, the short time limit and the seller's duty of warranty.
Can I also find legal literature on civil law?
Yes. Ex Ante searches journal articles, handbooks and doctoral theses on civil law, alongside the case law and legislation. For a judgment, you also find the commentary published on it, and the preparatory works of the article it applies.
Can I filter on case law after a reform?
Yes. You refine by date, for example to see only case law after 1 November 2020, when Book 8 on evidence entered into force.
Can I try Ex Ante for free on my civil law cases?
