“Semantic search makes a big difference. You find case law based on its legal context, not just on its words.”
Lion Janssenslawyer, Arcas LawQuestions about employment law in Ex Ante
Which employment law sources does Ex Ante search?
The judgments of the labour courts, the decisions of the labour tribunals, the case law of the Court of Cassation, the Employment Contracts Act, the Labour Act, the Well-being at Work Act, the collective bargaining agreements of the National Labour Council, the parliamentary preparatory works and legal literature.
Can I search only the judgments of the labour courts?
Yes. You filter by institution and refine by date and language. With Exclude party arguments switched on, Ex Ante searches only the assessment by the court, not the arguments of the employer or the employee.
How do I find case law on an article of the Employment Contracts Act?
Type the article and the act, for example "article 35 Employment Contracts Act". Ex Ante shows the text of the article and the case law and legal literature that apply it, each opened at the passage where the article is discussed.
Can I search in plain language, without knowing the exact terms?
Yes. Ex Ante searches by meaning. A question like "my employer dismissed me without explanation after my illness" also finds case law on manifestly unreasonable dismissal, the reasons for dismissal and discrimination based on health.
Can I also find legal literature on employment law?
Yes. Ex Ante searches journal articles, handbooks and doctoral theses on employment law, alongside the case law and legislation. For a judgment, you also find the commentary published on it.
Can I see how different labour courts rule on the same question?
Yes. You filter by institution to view the case law of one labour court. With the assistant, you compare in one answer how different courts rule, with a source at every step.
Can I search only French-language or only Dutch-language judgments?
Yes. The labour courts and tribunals rule in Dutch or French, from Antwerp and Ghent to Liège and Mons. With the language filter, you choose whether to search one language or both.
